Description

Fog is such a fascinating phenomenon. It has the power to obscure what should be so clear, leaving us uncertain about what lies ahead.

There are seasons in life when it feels like the fog is especially thick. At times, it weighs heavily upon us, making it difficult to see the goodness of the Lord and to sense His presence. In those moments, we have to hold tight to the truths we know, even when they feel distant.

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel with my family to Washington. As we flew into Seattle, we were in awe of the majestic Mount Rainier, which towered over the skyline. It was so vast and magnificent that we could see it from miles away. But the day we planned to drive to the national park turned out to be cloudy and overcast. Throughout the entire drive around the park, we couldn’t catch a glimpse of the mountain at all. The massive, awe-inspiring peak that we knew was there, just hidden behind the clouds, was completely out of sight.

Eventually, we stopped by a serene lake and sat there in quiet anticipation, watching the sky in hopes that the clouds might part, even if just for a moment. We had to wait, but deep down, we knew the mountain was still there, even if we couldn’t see it.

After an hour of patience, the clouds finally began to clear, and a small glimpse of Mount Rainier emerged, enough to remind us of its overwhelming presence. That fleeting peek made me think of my own life—the burdens I carry for loved ones in pain, the struggles with health, the brokenness of the world. At times, these things weigh on me like a fog, blocking out the magnificence of God’s presence. But just like that mountain, I know that He is always there, even when the fog makes it hard to see. I just have to wait and trust that, in time, the clouds will part, and I’ll catch a glimpse of His glory.

Romans 8:24-25 reminds me of this: “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”
